Hey there! Thanks for stopping in and for your interest in Fix n’ Do. If something’s broken, you need help with a project, want to remodel a room or just need solid advice on home, computer or mechanical subjects, I want to be the guy to help you. But I understand it’s not easy to trust someone you’ve never met and give them access to your home or business, so let’s take a few moments to get to know me.
First, the boring facts- I have a degree in chemical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. I am licensed, bonded and insured. I am a lifetime member of the Association of Certified Handyman Professionals (ACHP) which provides a code of ethics I support fully. I have been fixing and remodeling as a hobby for as long as I’ve been allowed to pick up tools and recently decided to make this hobby my full time business.
Yes, you read that correctly. I am a chemical engineer. Yes, I know I could make a lot more money if I worked in my field. Let me ask you something, have you ever felt out of place? Maybe that you were meant to do something other than what you were doing? That would be an apt description of my time in the corporate world. I wanted to feel as if I accomplished something at the end of the day, and I never did. I wanted to help people, but it never seemed like what I was asked to do helped my direct reports or the customers we had. I was not happy, and yet, I couldn’t put my finger on why.
So one day, an old friend who knew of my hobby and skills asked me to give him a hand with his business- fixing, improving, some remodeling…and that’s when I realized what the issue was for me. I had control of my own situation; no bosses breathing down my neck because my TPS reports weren’t complete. When I finished for the day, I could see exactly what I had accomplished and felt good about it. But the most important thing was the people who worked there were genuinely happy and thankful for my efforts. I knew I had to find a way to do this for a living, not just a hobby.
My dad always used to tell me when I was a kid, “The measure of a man is in what he does when no one is looking.” And later, when I had to whip some subordinates into shape I developed this definition of being professional: Do what you say you are going to do and never promise something you can’t deliver. I take both quotes very seriously and do my best to live up to them.
What else can I say? I’m a one man operation. I’m the guy who answers the phone when you call, responds to the emails, shows up at your house to give estimates as well as do the work. No blame game or finger pointing here. If something isn’t right, there’s only one person to look at. No pressure, though. And while I work alone, that doesn’t mean my resources are limited. If I can’t handle your project, there’s a good chance I know someone who can or at least steer you in the right direction. Like I said before, I want to be your handyman for life. If I can’t help today, I still want you to call me tomorrow, knowing I will help you in any way I can.
So thanks for stopping by and checking out the site. I look forward to getting the opportunity to prove to you the words I’ve just written. If you have further questions about me or Fix n’ Do, you can check out the FAQ page, email us here or call me direct at 1-815-931-3464.
